Being in an open source business model, we have the same balance to make between answering questions. But we always answer questions on the mailing list. Occaisionally its too hard to do in that forum, and then we encourage users to buy support, but we certainly don't leave simple questions like that unanswered.

I'm pretty sure the Mule guys are aware that this costs them some market share, but with fixed resources one has to prioritize.

i agree with paul...easy and simple questions are immediately answered on the forum ... that can get us go with heloworld implementations... any help seeked to performance tuning or implementing real world app questions are not answered... may be this is their way of forcing people to use commercial support

Cooolmagic - Are these settings in the documentation anywhere? I searched the Mule documentation and didn't find them. But I expect I missed them.

I think its a bit unfair of Mule to expect us to be psychic... we asked for help configuring Mule numerous times doing the benchmarking with no response.

Thanks for the comment, and we will consider this in the follow-up round which will take place shortly.

However, I do not agree that the results are completely flawed, as what we did was get the best performance from the "out-of-the-box" configurations of ESBs, or a default "production" level configuration of the ESB's. However, since both ServiceMix 3.2.1, Mule CE 2.0.1 and the other proprietary version of the open source ESB failed to handle the level of concurrency we required, we set the maximum threads to 100 for all. So this is the best that Mule gave us with this setting

Your results are completely flawed. You have to configure mule with poolExhaustedAction="RUN" and exhaustedAction="WHEN_EXHAUSTED_GROW". Then results will be different.
